The mind is a toy in the hands of the powerful, and a weakness in the hands of the oblivious.

TALLIS

The song grew stronger as I walked toward the house, and the gates opened for me like they knew this was where I belonged. Her voice... I’d never heard her sing so sweetly.

The humming sent vibrations down my spine, warming me to my core as they drove me on, and I smiled when I saw her walking toward me. She flipped her dark hair over her shoulder, and her grin broke free as she hummed and came closer.

My stride grew stronger as I broke into a sprint. She met me half way, and I picked her up. She wrapped her legs around my waist before throwing her arms around my neck and hugging me close just as her lips crashed down on mine.

She tasted like everything I’d been searching for. There was hope, peace, serenity, and so much love.

“You came,” she whispered, leaning back as her eyes met mine. “I’ve missed you.”

“I’ll always come for you. You know that,” I told her, feeling the connection grow. The bond must have been restored, and she was mine. All mine still.

“I’ve missed you,” she said, giggling lightly when I shifted and took us to the ground with me settling on top of her.

“We can’t do this right now,” she rasped as I kissed her neck, moving up the curve of it to taste everything she had.

She didn’t taste the same, but I didn’t care. We were still together.

“Why?” I asked, not really caring. Nothing was going to stop me.

“Because my family is here, silly,” she said, giggling louder.

I pulled back, groaning when I saw several of them perched on the porch, but no one was judging us. No one was trying to separate us anymore.

I looked down, feeling my chest swell with pride. “I love you, Aria.”
